SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Washburn Ichabods improved to 5-0 overall and head coach
Bob Chipman picked up his 793rd win as Washburn rolled to an 86-61 win over Metropolitan University in San Juan. The Ichabods will wrap up the three-game island trip with Lubbock Christian on Saturday.
Washburn led 50-31 at the break after shooting 52 percent from the field hitting 16 of 31 shots while holding the Alligators to 11 of 31 shots from the field.
The Ichabods cooled off to 30 percent in the second half hitting 11 of 37 shots, but were 11 of 12 from the free throw line and hit three 3-pointers in the frame limiting UMET to 26 percent in the second half going 8 of 30 from the field and 1 of 15 from 3-point range in the win.
Washburn dominated on the glass outrebounding the Alligators 56 to 34 with 17 offensive rebounds holding UMET to only eight offensive rebounds.
Cameron Wiggins led the Ichabods in the game with 19 points with 11 coming in the first half. He hit five 3-pointers in the game.
David Salach finished with 13 points and
Javion Blake scored 11 points adding four rebounds and four assists.
Brady Skeens recorded his second double double of the season and 12th of his career with 10 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Washburn finished 27 of 68 from the field for a 40 percent average and held UMET to 31 percent hitting 19 of 61 shots. Washburn was 23 of 28 from the free throw line and hit 9 of 24 3-point attempts. UMET as 3 of 25 from behind the arch and was 20 of 28 from the free throw line.
