Ichabod basketball team back in action facing Thunder on Thursday

Opening Tip
•   The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team returns to Lee Arena and Schendel Court for a Thursday match up with Manhattan Christian at 7 p.m.
•   Washburn is 6-0 this season after going 3-0 at the 2016 Puerto Rico Clasico last week.
•   This season will be Bob Chipman's last season on the bench at Washburn … Chipman announced prior to the start of the season this year would be his last … Chipman has recorded a career-record of 794-343 at Washburn needing only six wins to reach 800 for his career becoming only the 14th coach to reach that milestone.
•   Washburn has never played Manhattan Christian.
•   Manhattan Christian is 2-4 this season and has an exhibition game at Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday night.
•   The Thunder lost to Newman on Nov. 18 82-76 in Wichita earlier this season.
•   Through three games, Cameron Wiggins is ranked 11th in the MIAA in scoring at 17.3 ppg and Javion Blake is 21st at 13.7 ppg … Wiggins' 3-point field goal percentage of 51 percent (26 of 51) is fifth in the MIAA and his 4.3 made 3-pointers per game is first in the MIAA.
•   Brady Skeens leads the league in rebounding at 11.5 rpg and is third in the MIAA in field goal percentage at 61 percent (31 of 51) and leads in blocks at 3.0 per game.
•   Randall Smith's 5.5 assists per game is second in the MIAA this season.
•   Brady Skeens' 91 blocks is fourth on the career chart at Washburn … he trails Bobby Chipman (94), Dan Buie (96) and Ewan Auguste (100) on the all-time chart.
•   David Salach is 19th in the MIAA in rebounding at 5.3 per game.
•   The Ichabods received votes in this week's NABC Division II Top 25 poll and was ranked 14th in the D2SIDA/Media Poll.

•   has been the Athletic Director and Men's Basketball Coach at Manhattan Christian College since 1994.
•   is beginning his 23rd season as head coach and he has compiled an overall record of 453-278.
•   in 1996 MCC captured the NCCAA IIA National Championship and he was named the NCCAA IIA Coach of the Year.
•   he has also been named the NCCAA Central Region Coach of the Year seven times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 & 2009, 2015).
 
Last Time Out For The Ichabods
Washburn 65, Lubbock Christian 63 -- Nov. 26, 2016
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Washburn Ichabods survived a late comeback and a pair of furious runs by Lubbock Christian in a 65-63 improving to 6-0 on the season. The win was Ichabod head coach Bob Chipman's 794th of his career.
Washburn jumped out to leads to 6-0 and 13-2 before the Chaps rallied cutting the lead to two at 15-13 with 11 minutes to play in the first half.
The Chapps then ripped off a 17-3 run to take a seven point lead over the break and took as lead at 39-31 with 17:56 to play in the game. Washburn came back with a 14-6 run of its own to take a 43-42 lead but LCU took the lead back by one at 46-45 before the Ichabods took the lead for good on a jumper by Brady Skeens at 47-46 jump starting an 11-0 run over the next 4:20 pushing the lead to 10 at 56-46.
However the Chaps (2-5) didn't go away as they trimmed Washburn's lead to one at 64-63 with five seconds to play. After a foul by LCU, Javion Blake hit 1 of 2 free throws locking up the 65-63 win for Washburn.
Randall Smith led the Ichabods with 14 points adding two assists and three rebounds and Cameron Wiggins and David Salach each had 13. Skeens finished with eight points and 13 rebounds adding three blocks.
Washburn shot 45 percent from the game hitting 6 of 19 3-pointers, but only 5 of 12 free throws.
The Chaps were 38 percent from the field hitting 25 of 66 overall and 7 of 20 3-pointers with 6 of 8 on free throw attempts. 
 
About Manhattan Christian
•   The Thunder is 2-4 this season heading to an exhibition game with Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 29 in Edmond.
•   They lost to Newman on Nov. 18 82-76 after jumping out to a 14-0 lead over the Jets.
