KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell behind 7-0 and coupled with a Nebraska-Kearney team who shot 57 percent from 3-point range was too much for Washburn to overcome as they dropped to 0-2 in MIAA play and 8-2 overall in a 93-80 loss to the Lopers. Washburn returns to action on Saturday hosting Lindenwood.
Washburn was led by
Brady Skeens who scored a career-high 23 points adding nine rebounds with six assists and five blocks to lead the Ichabods going 11 of 13 from the field.
Javion Blake finished with 18 points followed by
Randall Smith with 15 and
David Salach with 11.
Washburn trailed 44-37 at the break and cut the lead to four in the second half before the Lopers would pull away.
UNK finished 60 percent from the field hitting 31 of 52 shots and went 57 percent from 3-point range hitting 12 of 21 attempts. UNK was also 19 of 25 from the free throw line compared to 15 of 18 for the Ichabods. Washburn shot 52 percent from the field in the game going 30 of 58 overall and 5 of 12 from 3-point range.
The loss was the sixth-straight to the Lopers. Ty Dannielson led the Lopers with 28 points hitting 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range and 10 of 11 free throw attempts.
