TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn Ichabod women's basketball takes on Benedictine at Schendel Court at Lee Arena as its final non-conference tilt before opening league play later in the week. The Ravens are 7-3 on the season and sit at No. 11 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Division I Women's Basketball Poll. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
Tip-Off // The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up its non-schedule for for the time being following its matchup with NAIA power Benedictine ... the Ichabods are 4-1 in their last five contests and 3-2 at at Lee Arena after starting the season 2-2 at home ... the slow start marked the second time in 17 seasons that a Ron McHenry-led team has done so and the first since 2013-14 ... Monday's game between the 'Bods and Ravens is the 42 meeting and dates back to the 1969-70 season ... freshman Reagan Phelan leads the team in scoring (10.4 pts/game) after a 20 point outburst against Saint Mary on Nov. 12 ... New Faces // Washburn has five new players on its 2016 roster, including one NCAA Division I transfer, one junior college transfer and three true freshmen ... Charisma Alexander joins the Ichabods after one season at Division I Stephen F. Austin. Alexander averaged 4.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 25.4 minutes while appearing in all 31 games for the LadyJacks and helping them win the Southland Conference championship ... Macy Myers joins Washburn following two seasons with Otero Junior College where she finished her career averaging 19 points/game for the Trojans ... the crop of true freshmen are made up of Cara Donley, Reagan Phelan and Jo Roepke ... Donley was multi-sport letterwinner at both Abilene and Scared Heart HS where she earned various individual accolades ... Phelan was also a multi-sport athlete during her time at Central Plains where she was named the 2015-16 KBCA Miss Kansas Basketball ... TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn women's basketball improved to 5-2 on Saturday after routing Oklahoma Panhandle State by the score of 87-42 for its third consecutive victory while bringing head coach Ron McHenry six wins shy to 400 ... Jumping out to a 12-1 advantage, the Ichabods controlled the tempo early and never looked back as they outscored the Aggies 29-10 in the first quarter. Washburn maintained its sizable advantage during the second lead OPSU 43-23 at the break ... In the third, the Ichabods doubled their advantage to 72-28 as Oklahoma Panhandle accounted for just five of the 34 points tallied in the period before Washburn closed out the night with an 87-42 win ... Alyxis Bowens led Washburn offense with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds. Jharian Bowen and Erin Dohnalek followed with 12 points apiece. Macy Myers and Erika Lane also chipped in with nine points, while Reagan Phelen netted eight.
