TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods raised their record to 2-1 on the season with an 8-1 win over McKendree University on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. Washburn will take on Missouri-Kansas City on Feb. 19 on the road in a battle against a NCAA Division I opponent.

The Ichabods swept doubles play starting out as Jodie Blackim and Ally Burr blanked Janelle Fung and Kelcie Comley 8-0 at No. 1 doubles while Gwen Shepler and Whitney Holloman held off Jessica Gaither and Charlee Goodman 9-7 at No. 2 doubles. MaKenna Gonzales and Laura Shkembi shutout Tori Lindsay and Hannah Harry 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Shkembi topped Comley 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1 singles while Blackim topped Fung 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Holloman defeated Gaither 6-2, 7-6 and Holly Johnston blanked Goodman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Shepler picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Harry at No. 6 singles.
