WICHITA, Kan. – No. 36 Washburn took the doubles point off NCAA Division I opponent Wichita State but fell, 4-1, in a men's tennis dual on Wednesday, March 2. 
 
Washburn won two of three doubles matchups (both against nationally-ranked opponents) to take a 1-0 lead in the match.  WU's No. 2 doubles team of Matt Barlow and Zach Hampton put the Ichabods in control with a 6-4 win over No. 22 Miroslave Herzan/Haru Inoue, but the Shockers evened things up with a No. 3 doubles win against Trey Horton and Will Agritelley of WU (6-3), making the top doubles flight the decisive match.
 
In No. 1 doubles, WU's team of Blake Hunter and Aleja Valarezo Plaza took down nationally ranked (No. 45) Jocelyn Devilliers/Tin Ostojic, 6-3, and the Ichabods sealed the doubles point.
 
In singles, Washburn battled with the Shockers but dropped four of six matchups and the other two were left unfinished as WSU took the match.
 
Washburn returns to the court on Sunday, March 6 with a home matchup against Cowley County Community College at 12 p.m.
