TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 25 ranked Washburn Ichabods were topped by No. 21-ranked Nebraska-Kearney 6-3 in tennis action on Thursday at the Washburn Tennis Complex. Washburn returns to action on Sunday facing another nationally-ranked team in Southwest Baptist.

The Ichabods were down 2-1 after doubles play as the No. 16-ranked team in the country of Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and Blake Hunter defeated Georges Wakim and Justin Nguyen 9-7. Matt Barlow and Zach Hampton pushed Lucas Garces and Mohab El Zanaty 9-7 coming up short at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Washburn picked up wins at No. 1 singles as Valarezo Plaza beat Alvaro Arias 6-3, 6-3 and Hunter beat Nguyen 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to pick up his team-best 22nd singles win.
