TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 25-ranked Washburn Ichabod men's tennis team picked up a huge regional win over No. 31-ranked Southwest Baptist with a 6-3 victory in the regular season finale. Now two teams will face each other in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday in Springfield, Mo.

The Bearcats are the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament and the Ichabods will be the No. 4 seed. Regionally speaking, SBU is ranked No. 2 in the region and the Ichabods were ranked No. 6 in the latest poll.

Washburn jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles when Blake Hunter and Alejandro Valarezo Plaza beat Sherif Abohabaga and Gyorgy Argoston 9-7 at No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 team of Zach Hampton and Matt Barlow picked up an 8-5 win over Chris Blodig and Torben and Chris Blodig 8-5.

In singles, Barlow defeated Agroston 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Hunter topped Blodig 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Hampton turned back Torben Semrau 6-2, 6-2 and at No. 6 singles Dario Munoz-Poletti defeated Marcel Castillo 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in his final match at Washburn.
