SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Washburn Ichabod women's tennis had its season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to No. 11-ranked Northeastern State on Friday in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals. Washburn ends the season 8-13.
Washburn was down 2-1 after doubles after the No. 3 team of
MaKenna Gonzales and
Laura Shkembi topped Easton Parker and Karla Tomaic 8-3. Washburn's No. 1 team of
Ally Burr and
Jodie Blackim fell 9-7 to Patricia Husakova and Molly Worden. At No. 2 doubles,
Gwen Shepler and
Maggie Plum lost to Valeriia Efimenko and Daria Panferova 8-0.
In singles play, at No. 1 Shkembi fell to No. 32-ranked Husakova 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Blackim lost to Panferova 6-4, 6-3 and Plum was beat by Efimenko 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Nos. 4-6 matches involving
Jennifer Krause,
Holly Johnston and
Gwen Shepler were all in the first set when the RiverHawks clinched the match.
