ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's tennis team fell behind 2-1 after doubles but could not recover falling 6-3 to Missouri Western on Thursday afternoon in St. Joseph. The Ichabods will return to action on Saturday when they will host Fort Hays State.

Washburn's lone point in doubles play came at No. 3 as the duo of MaKenna Gonzales and Laura Shkembi topped Lindsay Beger and Denise Chiao 8-5. 

In singles play, the Ichabods lost in their top four flights as the wins came at No. 5 singles when Holly Johnston topped Meara Smith 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 and by No. 6 when Gwen Shepler beat Beger 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 for the third point of the day.
