Washburn Soccer Concludes Non-Conference Schedule With Newman

 Opening Notes

• The Washburn Ichabods will travel to Wichita, Kan. to face the Newman Jets on Sept. 11

• The Ichabods are coming off of a 5-0 shutout over Northwestern Oklahoma in its home opener.

• Washburn's last non-conference road win was on Sept. 8, 2013 in a 5-0 win over Wayne State. 

• Washburn women's soccer is 40-67-16 all-time in matches away from Yager Stadium.

 'Bod's and Ends

• Emily Stauffer is the Ichabods'  leading scorer thus far into the season with 3 points off of one goal and one assist.

• Morgan El-Attrache leads Washburn in the assist category with two overall.

•  Kaitlin Minnich and Riley Boomer split time in goal for the the Ichabods. With a combined GAA of 1.00 and nine saves.

•  Six Ichabod players have scored goal thus far into the season, five of which came on Sept 9 in the Ichabods home opener against Northwestern Oklahoma

•   The Ichabods have 12 upperclassmen on this season's roster led by three experienced seniors in Bourne, Michelle Keleher and Sophia Sabala who have seen action in 154 combined matches.

 For Starters

  •  The Ichabods have eight starters returning this season four of which earned spots on All-MIAA teams, Cadence Bourne (second team), Paige Swanson (third team),  Rebecca Weimer (honorable mention) and Kaitlin Minnich ( honorable mention).

 Scouting the Jets

• Newman enters its first season season under head coach Aaron Avila. 

• The Jets entered this season tabbed 5th in the Heartland Conference Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing last season with a 6-8-2 overall record.

•  The Jets are currently 2-0-2 heading into the match.

• Newman returns all-Heartland Third team members Korrie Raney (Defender), Madison Decker  (Mid-Fielder) and Morgan Foster (Forward)

 Series history with Newman

• Washburn has played Newman four times since the addition of women's soccer to Washburn University.

• The Ichabods and the Jets are tied 2-2-0 in this series.

• Newman picked up a, 2-1 victory the last time these two teams met on the pitch. 


About head coach Chris Jones

• Chris Jones is 6-11-5  entering his second season at Washburn and is only the second coach in the program's history since 2003.

• Prior to taking the head coaching role at Washburn, Jones  was an assistant coach at Fort Hays State where the Tigers went 20-13-5 coaching 11 All-MIAA picks.

• Prior to joining the Tigers, he was president and coach of the University of Oklahoma's men's club team.

• Washburn is 96-125-37 (.444) all-time entering its 14th season of action. 

• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 62-78-23 (.451). 

• In home matches, the Ichabods are 48-49-17(.500).

• On the road, the Ichabods are 40-67-16 (.390).

• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-9-4 (.450).

• The Washburn women's soccer team will open MIAA play on the road Sept. 16 against Emporia State.
