Ichabod Soccer Hits the Road for Pair of Weekend Matches

 Opening Notes

• The Washburn Ichabods will open MIAA play this week when it faces Emporia State  Sept 16. and Nebraska-Kearney Sept. 18.

• The Ichabods are coming off of a pair of shutouts this past weekend over Northwestern Oklahoma State (5-0) and Newman (1-0)

• Washburn's last conference road win at Emporia State on Oct. 30, 2015 in a 1-0 win over the Hornets. 

• Washburn women's soccer is 41-67-16 all-time in matches away from Yager Stadium.


 
'Bod's and Ends

• Emily Stauffer is the Ichabods'  leading scorer thus far into the season with five points off of two goals and one assist.

• Morgan El-Attrache leads Washburn in the assist category with two assist. 

•  Kaitlin Minnich and Riley Boomer split time in goal for the the Ichabods. With a combined GAA of 1.00 and nine saves.

•  The Ichabods look to extend its winstreak to three. The last time Washburn won three consecutive matches was in 2013 when they won matches over Northwest Missouri, Lindenwood, and Missouri Western.

•   The Ichabods have 12 upperclassmen on this season's roster led by three experienced seniors in Bourne, Michelle Keleher and Sophia Sabala who have seen action in 155 combined matches.

 
For Starters

  • The Ichabods have eight starters returning this season four of which earned spots on All-MIAA teams, Cadence Bourne (second team), Paige Swanson (third team),  Rebecca Weimer (honorable mention) and Kaitlin Minnich ( honorable mention).

 
Spreading the Wealth

• Five different Ichabods have scored goals this season and 15 have taken shots over the course of the season.

• The Ichabods scored 14 points in its home opener over Northwestern Oklahoma State for the third time in program history. Eight different players scored points during the match.


Scouting the Hornets

• Emporia State enters its sixth season season under head coach Bryan Sailer. 

• The Hornets entered this season tabbed 9th in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing last season with a 9-8-1 overall record.

•  Emporia State is currently 1-2-1 heading into the match.

• The Hornets return all-MIAA honorable mention goalkeeper Yadira Rivera, all-MIAA third team defender Jaide Allenbrand, and all-MIAA honorable mention midfielder Maria Walden. 


Series history with Emporia State

• Washburn leads the series between these two team at 14-8-3.

• The Ichabods won 1-0 the last time these two teams met on the pitch.




Scouting the Lopers

• Nebraska-Kearney enters its fifth season under head coach John Maessner.

• The Lopers are 2-2-0 going into this weekends match and will face Fort Hays State Sept. 16 before hosting the Ichabods.

• The Lopers were tabbed seventh in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll after posting a 5-10-4 record last season.

•  Nebraska-Kearney returns eight starters from last season including all-MIAA selection Kadie Walaszczyc (Defender).


Series history with Nebraska-Kearney

• Washburn and Nebraska-Kearney are deadlocked in this series at 2-2-3.

• The last time these two teams met it resulted in a two overtime tie at 1-1


About head coach Chris Jones

• Chris Jones is 7-11-5  entering his second season at Washburn and is only the second coach in the program's history since 2003.

• Prior to taking the head coaching role at Washburn, Jones  was an assistant coach at Fort Hays State where the Tigers went 20-13-5 coaching 11 All-MIAA picks.

• Prior to joining the Tigers, he was president and coach of the University of Oklahoma's men's club team.

• Washburn is 96-125-37 (.444) all-time entering its 14th season of action. 

• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 62-78-23 (.451). 

• In home matches, the Ichabods are 49-51-17(.491).

• On the road, the Ichabods are 41-67-16 (.395).

• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-9-4 (.450).

• The Washburn women's soccer team will return to Yager Stadium for a two match homestand against Fort Hayes State on Sept. 23 and Nebraska-Kearney Sept. 25.
