Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. – Washburn soccer extended its win streak to three in a 2-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon.
A stellar defensive showing from the Ichabods held the Lopers scoreless at the half. Washburn outshot Nebraska-Kearney 6-3 heading into the break.
Washburn hit the ground running in the second half when
Morgan El-Attrache put the Ichabods on the board inside the 49
th minute off a free kick 25-feet out. Less than five minutes later
Emily Stauffer scored her third goal of the season after cutting to the left wing and scoring off an assist from
Ellie Karloff to give the Ichabods a 2-1 lead.
Two goals from the Ichabods would not go unanswered as Nebraska-Kearney defender Kelsie Ienn cut the Washburn lead to one where it would stay.
Washburn outshot Nebraska-Kearney 9-5 overall including 8-1 in shots on goal. Seven different Ichabods recorded shots during the match led by
Kate Combs who recorded a team-high 2 shots.
Kaitlin Minnich played every minute in goal for Washburn recording her second win of the season.
Washburn is now 3-2-0 overall and will return to action when it faces Emporia State in a match that was rescheduled due to wet field conditions Sept. 16. The match is slated for 4 p.m. at the ESU Pitch in Emporia, Kan.
