Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. –An aggressive first half by the Washburn Soccer team was not enough in a, 1-0 loss to Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon in the final match of the SMSU Mustang Classic.

The Ichabods outshot the Mustangs 5-1, in the first half and 11-9 overall. 10 different Ichabods recorded shots during the contest, three of which were on goal.  Washburn midfielder Emily Stauffer led the Ichabods with two shots on goal, both coming in the second half. Washburn maintained its aggressiveness after the break, but a goal by SMSU's Brenna Gidding in the 62nd minute broke the stalemate and put the Mustangs up, 1-0.

" Today just wasn't our day", said head coach Chris Jones. " We created a lot of great opportunities and played some great soccer. We were aggressive in our build up play to create those chances, now its about putting them away. There were a lot of positives to take away from this game and I can't wait for this weekend".

Washburn is now, 0-2 on the season and will return to the friendly confines of Yager Stadium on Sept. 9 to host Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. in its home opener.
