TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn volleyball stretched its home winning streak over Emporia State to nine straight with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) during Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday at Lee Arena. The victory pushed the Ichabods' record to 15-9 overall and gave them sole possession of seventh in the MIAA standings at 6-6.
The Washburn offense was highly efficient for the match committing just 12 errors on a 105 swings and registered 45 kills for a hitting mark of .314. Individually, the attack the was fuel by a trio Ichabods as

Erica Montgomery each finished with double-figure kills.Â
Defensively, Washburn held the Hornets (13-12, 5-7 MIAA) to .211 hitting for match including a set-low of .132 during the first.
Faith Rottinghaus' match-best 18-dig outing was her 24th consecutive double-digit performance of the season.Â
Washburn trailed early as Emporia State (13-12, 5-7 MIAA) opened the match with 6-3 run before four consecutive ESU errors tied the match at 7-7 before pushing the score to 10-9. The Ichabods then accounted for seven of the next nine points overtaking the lead at 16-12. With momentum on its side, Washburn never looked back limiting the Hornets to just five points for the remainder of the set en route to a 25-17 victory.
A cold start to the second set saw ESU roll out to a commanding 8-1 advantage. Trailing 9-3, Washburn began to heat up by cutting the deficit to, 9-8, as it rattled off five unanswered. The Hornets however held off Washburn's threat to tie as they eventually pushed the score 16-11. Down the stretch the Ichabods began to surge beginning with a 5-2 run closing the gap to 18-16 before pushing ESU aside with another 5-0 run gave them a 21-18 lead. A quick 4-0 spurt gave Emporia State its final lead of the set at 22-21 before the Ichabods rallied off four unanswered for themselves to secure the set, 25-22.
Back-and-forth action highlighted the early stages of the third set until Washburn pieced together a 5-1 run taking a 12-9 lead. The Hornets eventually struck back as a 6-2 run gave them a narrow 17-16 advantage. Montgomery and Maxwell however erased the deficit with back-to-back kills. Tied at 19, Berg pushed Washburn ahead as she tallied a kill and an assisted block in consecutive plays to giving it a 21-19 a lead. From there, the Ichabods accounted for four of the final seven points completing the sweep with a 25-22 set win.
Berg finished a match-best 12 kills and hit .345 while falling one shy of getting a double-double. Maxwell and Montgomory had 10 kills eachs.
Allison Sadler also posted a match-high as she recorded a 38-assist performance.Â
The Ichabods return to action to Friday when they host Nebraska-Kearney. The match is slated for 7 p.m. and will be senior night for
Taylor Selk,
Carley Swan and
Jade Hodge.
