Volleyball eliminated from MIAA Tournament

ST. JOESPH, Mo. --- Washburn saw its season come to an end Tuesday as it was eliminated from the MIAA Volleyball Championship by the No. 2-seed Missouri Western, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-15). With the result, the Ichabods dropped to 18-14 overall.

A sluggish in combination with several hitting errors place the Ichabods at an early disadvantage as Missouri Western jumped out to a 7-3 to begin the match. Washburn tried to work itself out of the early rut beginning with a 3-0 run to trim its deficit to 11-9. The Griffons however then took a 16-9 as it benefitted by consecutive WU attacks.  Trailing 17-10, Taylor Selk powered a 5-0 spurt for the Ichabods as she put away a pair of kills and picked up a block. Washburn to piece together a late rally but nothing materialized in time as Missouri Western won the first set, 25-21.

Washburn hitters struggled in the first as it conceded 13 errors on 47 attacking attempts with 10 kills as it was held to sub-.100 hitting.
Washburn took its first lead of the match during early in the second frame as a setting error granted them a 1-0 lead. Scoring rallies then bounced back-and-forth as neither side was able to break free more than a couple a point or two. Tied at 17, the Griffons closed out the set with an 8-2 run to take a 2-0 match lead.

The Ichabod hitting improved to .270 as it landed 15 kills in 37 swings with just five errors.
Missouri Western dominated the third set as it held Washburn to just nine kills and .061 hitting as it closed the match with a 10-5 taking the set, 25-15.

Selk finished with a team-high 11 kills while Olivia Powell followed with 10. Faith Rottinghaus tallied her 32nd consecutive double-figure dig total as she tallied 27. Allison Sadler dished out 25 assists, falling four shy of becoming the sixth freshman in program-history to record 1,000 assists.
