Women's Basketball host Southwest Baptist Tuesday in First Round of MIAA Tournament

Tipping Off
The Washburn Ichabods will try to avenge a loss and extend its season on Tuesday when it opens the MIAA Championship against No. 10-seed Southwest Baptist. WU enters the tournament as the No. 7-seed for the second consecutive season. Tuesday match-up will be the third meeting of the year and second time in 10 days. The season series is tied at 1-1 with each team earning victories on the road.

Scouting the Bearcats
• Southwest Baptist is 15-13 overall, 7-12 in league play.
• No. 10-seed in the MIAA Tournament.
• Enters Lee Arena with a two-game losing streak and loses in four of last five contests.
• SBU is the MIAA's 4th-best scoring offense, 72.3 ppg.
• League's 9th-best scoring defense at 65.9 ppg.
• Ranked 7th in Division II in FG shooting at 46.7 percent 
• Megan Rosenbohm is the team's leading scorer, 16.9 ppg.
• Rosenbohm is 18th in Div. II in FT percentage (87.1).
• Caylee Richardson is SBU's top rebounder with 7.2/game.

The Ichabods are eighth in the MIAA in free throw percentage with a mark of .722 with three starters shooting .750 or better.

Washburn's Ron McHenry is in his 17th season with the Ichabods ... during his first 16 season McHenry has amassed a 389-108 record ... was named the fifth coach in program-history in 2000 ... his .783 winning percentage to start the 2016-17 season is the best by any coach to lead the Ichabods/Lady Blues ... the mark is also 17th-best for active NCAA women's basketball coaches across all divisions and 23rd all-time ... amongst the Division II ranks, McHenry's winning percentage is fourth-best for active coaches and fifth-best all-time, while his 389 victories to open the season placed him 23rd for active coaches in Division II ... McHenry has 12 seasons with 20 or more wins and three seasons topping 30 ... in his first 16 years, McHenry has  coached 21 All-American selections, 42 All-MIAA nominees and one WNBA draft pick ... during the 2004-05 campaign McHenry steered the program to an NCAA Division II title ... Last Time Out 
Washburn 65, Southwest Baptist 69 • Feb.18, 2017
TOPEKA, Kan. --- Missed opportunities and a cold third quarter shooting held back the Washburn Ichabods as it dropped a heartbreaker Saturday night with a 69-65 final to Southwest Baptist ... Opening the game with 5-0 run, Washburn (16-10, 9-8 MIAA) controlled the tempo and momentum during the first period. The Ichabods eventually took its largest lead of the game at 19-11 as Reagan Phelan and Alyxis Bowens helped WU to a 7-2 run with 2:25 left in the first ... After opening the second period with narrow 23-20 advantage, WU was able to hold off the Bearcats (15-11, 7-10 MIAA) until the 4:23 mark when a Morgan Henderson tied the game at 31-31. SBU then took the lead as a layup from Megan Rosenbohm who finished the night a team-high 15 points. WU was able to force a pair of ties before the end of the half was unable to reclaim a leading position as SBU took a 38-36 margin into the locker room ...The Ichabod struggled in the third as they were held without a field goal basket until the 1:32 mark when a jumper from Erika Lane snapped the 6 minute and 39 second drought ... Trailing 57-48 at the start of the fourth, Washburn rediscovered its rhythm as it netted seven of the quarter's first nine points, reducing the Bearcat lead to 59-55. SBU's margin inflated to seven (64-57) midway through the period before Phelan and Jharian Bowen combined for a 6-0 run to pull WU win one (64-63) with 3:53 remaining. The late rally however fell short for the Ichabods as Southwest Baptist did enough to escape by ... Phelan lead all players with 21 points, converting 7-of-14 attempts from the field and all five attempts from the line. Phelan also dished out a game-best five assists. Bowens and Lane meanwhile followed with 15 and 14 points respectively. Lane went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe and pulled down a game-high eight boards ... Aside from its 3-of-11 shooting (27.3 percent) in the third, Washburn averaged 47.6 percent shooting during the other third quarters. SBU edged out WU in shooting 43.8 to 43.4. The teams tied in rebounding with 30 apiece.

'Bods History
• 
The 2016-17 marks the 48th season of Washburn women's basketball ... the Ichabods are 887-402-1 all-time ... the program has seen 23 seasons with at least 20 wins and had made 17 trips to the NCAA Division II Championship ... in 2004-05 Washburn won the NCAA Division II Championship and finished the season 35-2.
