TOPEKA, Kan. – The 36th-ranked Washburn men's tennis team kept its win streak alive with a 6-3 win over William Woods Wednesday afternoon at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
Washburn built itself a 2-1 lead early in the match after
Paul Haase and
Chase Brill cruised to a 8-1 win over David Barbieri and Juan Avellaneda.
Matt Barlow and
Tommy Hunter were outlasted by Johnnie Carmichael and Oscar Barreiro in an 8-4 decision to tie the match before No. 1 singles duo of
Alejandro Valarezo and
Blake Hunter ousted a pair of Owl netters 8-4.
With a one-point advantage the Ichabods headed into singles action led by newcomer
Paul Haase who blanked Oscar Donker 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.
Tommy Hunter continued the trend by handing Marcos Constantino a 6-2, 6-1 loss.
Blake Hunter dropped to 10-5 on the season with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Carmichael at No. 2 singles before Valarezo dropped his first match at No. 1 singles in a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 heartbreaker.
It would be senior leader
Matt Barlow who would come through under pressure for the Ichabods to clinch its fourth-straight win with a 6-0, 7-6 (9-7) ousting of Barreiro.
Chase Brill posted his third-straight win overall and second comeback victory with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-3 win over David Barbieri.
Washburn will remain at home for an afternoon matchup with Newman on Saturday, March 4.
