BOLIVAR, Mo. --- The 35
th-ranked Ichabod men's tennis team wasn't able to add No. 20 Southwest Baptist to its list of wins over ranked opponents after suffering a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Bearcats.
Washburn faced a deficit early on after letting a pair of doubles points slip away. The duo of
Blake Hunter and
Alejandro Valarezo picked up a win at No. 1 doubles in an 8-3 decision.
Matt Barlow and
Tommy Hunter were defeated 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, followed by a loss by
Paul Haase and
Chase Brill with an indentical score of 8-6 at the three spot.
SBU collected three more wins in singles action when Valarezo was defeated at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3.
Blake Hunter was handed a loss at No. 2 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Senior
Matt Barlow provided a highlight for the Ichabods after notching a win at No. 3 singles in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
Tommy Hunter was defeated at the four spot 7-5, 6-4 to close out the match for the Ichabods with a pair of courts going unfinished.
Washburn falls to 10-3 on the season and will prepare for a pair of home matches next week against Missouri –St. Louis and Central Oklahoma.
