JOPLIN, Mo. --- Washburn baseball struggled Sunday dropping the series finale to Missouri Southern, 10-5 at Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Missouri.
Tanner Triggs accounted for three of the Ichabods' (16-11, 8-8 MIAA) eight hits to go along with two runs in four at-bats.
Kasey Clark recorded a team-best two RBI while
Riley Krane recorded his ninth home run of the season.
The loss was attributed to
Jacob Head who surrendered five runs on six hits.
Matthew Hicks,
Josh Ramirez,
Tanner Strickbine and
Blake Peterson each made relief appearances with Strickbine's 2.2 innings of work being the most of any WU pitcher.
The first Ichabod run came in the opening stanza as Krane belted a solo shot to right center.
Bowe Behymer and Triggs then scored in the fifth before Triggs and
Brett Nickle scored in the sixth on a single by Clark.
Missouri Southern plated five runs in the first to take a 5-1 lead. The Lions then extended their advantage by scoring one in the second before a four-run fifth game them a 10-3 lead.
Washburn returns to action on Wednesday when it continues it series with Fort Hays at Falley Field. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
