4/12/2017 5:43:00 PM

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn men's tennis team concluded its home slate and sent out senior, Matt Barlow, the right way with a 9-0 sweep over visiting Baker University Tuesday afternoon.

The Ichabods wasted little time building a lead over the Wildcats after winning all three doubles points. Paul Haase and Chase Brill paired up for a dominate 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to start things off. Alejandro Valarezo and Blake Hunt paired up for their 12th straight win at No. 1 doubles in an 8-2 decision. Trey Horton made his season debut with fellow Ichabod Barlow to edge a pair of Wildcats 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

With a 3-0 lead at the break Washburn headed into singles play. Valarezo cruised to a win in straight sets for his fourth straight in a 6-0, 6-1 decision.

Barlow closed out his career at the Washburn Tennis Complex with an impressive blanking of a Wildcat netter for the clinching win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Blake Hunter earned a relatively easy win at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0, followed by younger brother Tommy Hunter picking up a win at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2.

Brill ousted Wildcat netter Dylan Geick in a 6-0, 6-2 decision before Haase completed the Ichabods fifth sweep of the season at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1.

Washburn improves to 14-3 this season and third in the Central Region after already securing a spot in the 2017 MIAA Championships. The Ichabods will travel to Rockhurst tomorrow for an afternoon match with the Hawks slated for 2 p.m.
