DURANT, Okla. --- The Washburn baseball team split its non-conference doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Ichabods (20-23) blanked the Savage Storm (15-26-1) 3-0 in the opener before falling 11-2 in the second game.
Washburn continues its trek through the Sooner State on Friday as it opens a three-game set with MIAA foe Central Oklahoma. First-pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
Game 1
The 'Bods grabbed an early 2-0 lead with runs from
Riley Krane and
Josh Crosby coming in the first. Krane reached on lead-off single then advanced to second on sac bunt from
Bowe Behymer before coming across with an RBI single from
Dylan Lonteen.
Kasey Clark then drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Crosby.
Crosby then stretched the Washburn advantage to 3-0 with a solo shot to left field for his second home run of the season.
The highlight of game one though was the efficient and dominating performance of Ichabod hurler
Josh Ramirez who tossed 64 pitches while going the full seven innings. Ramirez was credited with the win while scattering four hits with two strikeouts.
Game 2
A falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Ichabods responded in the top half of the third with runs from
Landon Hay and Krane. Crosby was credited with a RBI as he was hit with a pitch with bases loaded which forced Hay home after reaching on a lead-off walk.
Tanner Triggs then plated Krane to give WU a 2-1 lead.
The advantage however was quickly erased as Southeastern Oklahoma capitalized on a pair of WU errors before driving in a third run to take a 4-2 lead. The Savage Storm then assumed a nine-run margin by tacking on two runs in the fifth before benefitting from a five-run sixth to push the score to 11-2.
Quentin McGrath was charged with the loss for the Ichabods as he pitched 4.1 innings allowing six runs with five earned on five hits while registering five strikeouts.
NOTES:
Darian Abram went 4-for-5 for the day with one walk … Washburn left a total of 14 runners on base while SOSU stranded eight … The Ichabod victory in game one snapped a 10-game losing streak.
