HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn women's soccer team ended its' non-conference season on a winning note Friday, defeating Fort Hays State University 1-0.
Ellie Karloff scored for the Ichabods in the 33rd minute behind an assist from
Paige Ledesma. That goal was Karloff's third of the season, giving her the team lead in points with six.
The Ichabods scored the lone goal of the game despite being outshot for the match 13-6 and giving Fort Hays a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Washburn was more efficient with its shots, however, with five of them being on goal compared to the Tigers' three.
Eden Stoddard, the Tigers' leading scorer with 12 points, including five goals, was held scoreless on the night despite taking a season-high five shots.
Goalkeeper
Kaitlin Minnich posted her second consecutive shutout and her fourth of the season with the victory. With three saves on the night, she raised her save percentage on the year to .794.
After coming into the match averaging more than 12 fouls per game, the Ichabods set a new season-low with just four.
The Ichabods will hope to keep this current two-match winning streak alive Sunday, when they take on the University of Nebraska at Kearney Sunday for the second time. The Ichabods and Lopers last faced off this past Sunday, with Washburn coming out with a 2-0 win.
The Lopers are now 3-2-2 on the season after tying with Emporia State University Friday, 1-1. The game will take place at 2 p.m. in Kearney, Nebraska.
