WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Washburn men's tennis team had champions in both singles and doubles competition Saturday at the conclusion of the Midwestern State University Fall Invitational.

Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and Blake Hunter won the No. 1 doubles title after defeating teams from Dallas Baptist University, University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Tyler Junior College and Cameron University. The team of Valarezo Plaza and Hunter remains undefeated three tournaments into the season.

In singles competition, Valarezo Plaza also won the No. 1 singles consolation bracket after losing his initial matchup to Chase Bartlett, which went into a third set before Valarezo Plaza finally fell 12-10.

In the No. 2 singles bracket, Paul Haase made the finals before falling to Alejandro Hayen of Tyler Junior College, while Raul Dicu won the consolation bracket.

Washburn took the No. 3 singles bracket, with Ichabods Bradley Eidenmueller and Chase Brill each taking down their sides of the bracket and capturing a co-championship. Brill improved his singles record to a team-best 8-2 on the season.

Tommy Hunter made the finals of the No. 4 singles bracket, losing to Karl Mosterd of Tyler Junior College.

The Ichabods will compete in the ITA Central Regional Friday-Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri. At last year's ITA Regional, Valarezo Plaza advanced all the way to the finals before losing to Sherif Abohabaga of Southwest Baptist University.
