TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Davy Phillips era began on an overwhelmingly positive note last week with a pair of 2-0 victories over Upper Iowa University and Southwest Minnesota State University.

Ellie Karloff had a career day against SMSU, scoring both goals off of assists by Tera Lynch in her first multi-goal effort as an Ichabod. Against Upper Iowa, Emily Stauffer made an impact with a both a goal and an assist to Paige Swanson.

In Phillips' debut against Upper Iowa, the Ichabods held the Peacocks without a shot on goal and just two shots total in the first half, but were unable to get on the board themselves, as the first half ended 0-0.  Kelsi Smith had the lone first-half shot on goal for the Ichabods in the 41st minute, saved by Upper Iowa goalkeeper Calia Petrie.

Upper Iowa had an aggressive start to the second half with a shot on goal in the 48th minute, but it was saved by Kaitlin Minnich. Less than five minutes later, Stauffer gathered the ball in a scramble inside the 18 yard box to score the first goal of the Ichabods' season.

Paige Swanson added a goal in the 89th minute to seal the game for the Ichabods, part of a prolific second half that saw nine shots by Washburn.

Against SMSU Saturday, Karloff had a goal in each half, the latter of which came in the 87th minute. The Mustangs followed up Karloff's second goal with two shots on goal, both saved by Minnich in the final three minutes. Minnich finished the game with four saves, and recorded her second consecutive shutout to start 2017.

As a team, the Ichabods outshot their opponents for the week 29-11. In virtually every offensive category Washburn dominated, including 13-5 shots on goal and a 16-3 edge in corner kicks.

This week, the Ichabods will wrap up their games against nonconference opponents when they take on Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday and Newman University on Sunday.
