MATCH NOTES | No. 11 Volleyball goes to Emporia State Tuesday

TOPEKA, Kan. --- After dropping its match of the season the Washburn volleyball team will look to rebound on Tuesday against rival Emporia State in the season's final edition of the Conflict on I-335. The Ichabods (22-1, 10-1 MIAA) will take on the Hornets at 6 pm at White Auditorium. THEY GOT HISTORY
• According to Washburn's history books, Tuesday's match will be 118th meeting.
• Washburn trails the all-time series, 41-76.
• In Emporia, Washburn is 13-27 all-time.
• The Ichabods have claimed each of the last two meetings.
• The Ichabods last trip to Emporia (9/26/17) resulted in a five-set loss to end a 15-match win streak.
• In their first meeting of the season on Sept. 18, Washburn downed the Hornets 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 25-17) at Lee Arena.
• Washburn last won at White Auditorium on Oct. 4, 2016 in five sets (3-2; 24-26, 24,-26, 25-20, 25-17, 17-15).

LET'S GO STREAKING
Washburn's 22-0 run to open the 2018 campaign was the best start in program history surpassing a 15-0 start in 2009 ... the streak tied the 2011 mark for second-longest in program-history ... WU's record for longest win streak is 27, set by the 2007 team that finished 38-4.

SET DOMINATION
Washburn has been dominate this season winning 14 of 21 matches in 3-0 fashion ... additionally, the Ichabods have only dropped 12 of 78 sets they've played ... entering the 2018 campaign, WU had won 308 matches in straight sets with 24 as the record for most three-set victories in a single-season, set in 2008. 

TOUGH DEFENSE
• The Washburn defense is among the NCAA Division II Top 25 in opponent hitting percent (0.112) and digs per set (19.30) while listed among the Top 50 in total digs (1,507), blocks (165.5) and blocks per set (2.1).
• In 20 of 22 matches, WU opponents have hit sub-.200 for a match, with 11 below the .100 mark including a season-low -.029 against Southeastern Oklahoma (8/25).
• Opponents have combined for 470 attack errors with the WU front line contributing with 165.5 blocks.
• Washburn tops the MIAA team leaderboard in digs per set and opponent hitting percentage and is second in blocks per set ... the Ichabods are fifth in total digs and sixth in total blocks.

ALL OUT ATTACK
• Among the national leaderboard, the Washburn offense is among the Division II's top 30 in most major categories such as kills per set (14.4), assists per set (13.4), hitting percentage (0.250), team assists (1,045) and team kills (1,123).
• The Ichabods attack have hit .250 or better in a match 12 times this season and have surpassed .300 hitting on four occasions including a season-best, .413 versus Southern Arkansas (8/31).
• In the MIAA team leaderboard, WU is among the top two in several categories ... it leads the way in hitting percentage as well assists per set and kills per set, while placing second in aces per set (1.5) and team aces (119).

ACES HIGH
• Washburn's ability to gain points from the service line has it among the nation's top 75 as the Ichabods' 119 aces to start the week.
• WU's season-high for aces in a match is 10, which it reached twice (vs. DBU on Sept. 24 and a day later against UCCS).
• Six Ichabods began the weekend with double-figure ace totals with Faith Rottinghaus and Shayla Conner leading the way with 22 apiece.

GET YO MAK ON
• Makayla Maxwell's 605 kills is 33rd-overall on the all-time Washburn kills list ... she posted a career-best 272 kills in 2017 and has averaged roughly 157 kills in her last three seasons.
• Maxwell's 339 career blocks is 15th-best on the Washburn record book ... she now trails her former coach at WU, Jessica Fey ... averaged 123 blocks in her last two seasons and if she continues the trend, would put herself among program's the top 10 all-time - she notched 117 last season.
• Maxwell began the week sixth among MIAA leaders with a .353 hitting percentage ... she is also seventh in the MIAA in blocks per set (0.97) and ninth in blocks (66).

COUNT ON THE HAUS
• Faith Rottinghaus began the year ranked 44th with 579 career digs ... she has since added to her total and is now 24th all-time with 980 digs.
• Nationally, Rottinghaus is among the Top 75 in Div. II in digs (347) and digs per set (4.89).
• Rottinghaus tied a career-best on Friday (10/12) with a 33-dig performance ... in her last three matches, has a team-high 71 digs and is averaging 7.10 per set.

COURTSIDE ASSISTANCE
• Now with over 1300-career assists, Shayla Conner continues to the climb the charts, now sitting at 12th on the career assist rankings (1,383) is now 131 behind Tami Dell for 11th and 226 shy of the 10th spot on the career list.
• Conner has reached the 40-assists plateau six times this season including a career-best 52 against UNK (9/15) ... the last time was Friday (10/12) against Missouri Western.
• Conner has a team-best 16 double-doubles for the year and has registered double-double efforts in 10-consecutive matches.
• Nationally, Conner's 712 assists and 9.37 assists per set, place her among the Top 100 ... among the MIAA, she places fourth and fifth, respectively, while being listed 16th in digs (265).

ALLI TO THE MAX
• In the last three matches, Allison Maxwell has a team-best 37 kills with 3.70 kills per set and hitting .312 with eight blocks.
• Registered a career-best 24 kills on Friday (10/12) versus MWSU ... has 14 matches with double-figure kills ... had a seven-match streak (9/14-29) with 10+ kills.
• Maxwell is among the top 50 in Washburn's career record book for total blocks (t-37th/160), kills (43rd/453) and points (47th/547).
• Maxwell began the week with 236 kills behind a .340 hitting percentage while averaging 3.19 kills per set ... defensively, the sophomore is averaging 0.82 blocks per sets while registering 61 total through 23 matches.

SHE'S A G
• In the last five matches, Genna Berg has 48 kills and has hit .228 with 3.00 kills per set, while defensively tallying 57 digs and eight blocks.
• Through 23 games, Berg is hitting .219, a mark that's .055 better than last season, while more than doubling her digs per set as she began the week at 2.44. 

OTHER NOTABLES
• Over the course of the last three matches, Erica Montgomery has 31 kills (3.10/set) ... she has 210 kills this season.
• Taylor Antonowich is averaging 2.00 kills per set with three aces and nine blocks during the last five matches.
• Katie Heeter has been solid on the backline with 42 digs in her last five matches and 160 on the year ... had a season-best 19 in win over UNK (9/15).

ROAD WARRIORS
The Ichabods are 12-0 this season when not playing at Lee Arena including a 7-0 mark in true road contests. In the three last seasons, Washburn is 37-20 when playing away from Lee Arena including 20-16 mark in true road contests.

50TH SEASON
The 2018-19 academic year marks the 50th season of women's athletics at Washburn University, which began with volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and  gymnastics. Although, field hockey and gymnastics are no longer available, the offerings for female student-athletes have grown to eight sports with the addition of soccer, tennis, and most cross country and track and field.
