Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The No. 19 Washburn men's tennis team squeaked by No. 21 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday, defeating the Bison 5-4.
The Ichabods were in a 1-2 hole after doubles competition, with just the No. 1 pairing of
Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and
Blake Hunter defeating Kevin Andrusch and Luis Romero 8-3.
The singles matches started off with a No. 3 slot victory for the Ichabods, as
Paul Haase vanquished Dani Aguilera in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Bradley Eidenmueller remained undefeated in singles action for the spring, beating OBU's Romero after a tiebreaker in the second set. The No. 4 player in the nation Valarezo Plaza also won his singles match in three sets.
With the match tied 4-4, freshman
Raul-Alin Dicu pulled out the deciding victory for the Ichabods, winning in the No. 6 slot 6-1, 6-4.
The Ichabods now sit at 2-1 for the season, and will take on Ottawa University in their home-opening match, which will take place Friday at 4 p.m. at the Topeka Country Club.
