EDMOND, Okla. --- Two big innings for Central Oklahoma spelled disaster for the Washburn baseball teams as it dropped the series finale, 16-6, in eight innings. Â The Ichabods registered series-high with eight hits, while also posting a weekend high in runs.
Josh Crosby accounted for three of Washburn's run in the fifth as he tallied a three-run blast for his sixth home run of the season and pushed his season RBI total to 13. Crosby finished the day 2-for-5.Â
Javis Larson and
Darian Abram also drove in runs to help the Ichabod cause. Larson's RBI came in the third as he doubled to center and pushed
Jake Hahn across putting Washburn on the board. Abram's second double of the day resulted in an RBI
Bailey Jenkins scored to make it 11-5.Â
Jenkins scored again in the eighth but it was not enough to avoid the game being called as a result of the run-rule.
Abram went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run. Hahn was 0-for-2 on the day but drew two walks.
Washburn starter
Sam Carver was charged with the loss as he surrendered eight runs on seven hits. Carver worked 3 1/3-innings with four walks and four strikeouts.
Brock Gilliam tossed the next 2 2/3-innings allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits before
Matthew Hicks pitched the final two frames and conceded five runs, two earned, on six hits.
UCO opened the game with a four-run first, before tacking on six runs in the in fourth. The Bronchos added one run in sixth, before combining for five between the seventh and eighth innings.
Washburn continues with conference play next weekend as it is scheduled to host a three-game series with Central Missouri at Falley Field.Â
