Baseball splits twin bill with Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. --- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team split its series opening doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant on Friday taking game one, 9-2, before being dealt a 7-1 loss in game two. The Ichabods (3-3) are slated to return to action tomorrow with a single game scheduled for 1 pm, weather pending.

Game 1:  Washburn 9, Southeastern Oklahoma 2
The Ichabods broke a 1-1 deadlock in the sixth as Jake Bublitz notched his first home run of the season with a three-run blast to left to also score Kolton Meyer and Josh Crosby on the play. Southeastern Oklahoma (3-3) trimed the lead to 4-2 in the bottom half of the second, but that was the last time it pushed a runner across during game one.

After a scoreless seventh, Washburn added to its advantage with a run from Joel Spain before Bowe Behymer broke open the game in the eighth with a three-run shot to score Darian Abram and Jake Hahn in the process. Bublitz capped the scoring late in the eighth as he plated his fifth RBI with a single to score Steven Jacobson.

Stater Josh Ramirez collected a no decision as he worked 3 2/3, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts, and two balls. Austin Simpson, Brock Gilliam, Matthew Hicks and Jake Butterfield each followed with relief appearances. Gilliam was credited with the victory while Butterfield was issued the save.

Game 2: Southeastern Oklahoma 7, Washburn 1
The Storm used a five-run second inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead before tacking on one more in the third. Washburn evaded the shutout in the seventh with a solo home run from Brady Hoover, his second of the year.

Starter Nick Sloan was issued the lost. Trevor Marreel and Jack Christian worked the final three innings holding SEOSU scoreless for the final three innings while allowing just two hits.
