Box Score HAYS, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team picked up another win to add to its perfect MIAA start Wednesday, defeating Fort Hays State 8-1.
The Ichabods took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play, with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams winning out over the Tigers.
Alexis Czapinski and
Logan Morrissey moved to 8-1 on the year in No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 team of
Jacqueline Engelbrecht and
Alysha Nowacki moved to 6-3.
In singles action the Ichabods shined, sweeping slots 1-6 to win the duals match 8-1.
Alexis Czapinski scored the first decision in her No. 1 singles match, defeating Natalie Lubbers 6-2, 6-1.
MaKenna Gonzales clinched it for the Ichabods out of the No. 6 slot, winning her match against Nicole Lubbers 6-4, 6-3.
Other Ichabod victories included freshman
Alysha Nowacki, who was able to snap out of a three-match skid and win out of No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Madison Lysaught had the toughest match of the day, splitting two seven-game sets before ultimately winning her No. 5 singles match 7-5, 5-7, 10-4.
The now 7-2 Ichabods have one more match this week, continuing their road trip against Nebraska-Kearney. The Lopers are ranked No. 6 in the Central region, two spots ahead of the Ichabods. The match will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, in Grand Island, Nebraska.
