ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods went 2-0 on the first day of the Missouri Western/Hy-Vee Regional Crossover with wins over Wayne State and Northern State on Saturday increasing their winning streak to six games. Washburn (19-6) will continue the crossover with two more games with Concordia- St. Paul and Upper Iowa on Sunday.
Game 1 – Washburn 6, Wayne State 3
The Ichabods jumped out to an early lead scoring solo runs in the first and third innings when a
Taylor Kirk single drove in
Emilee Baker in Washburn's first at bat and then
Savannah Moore drove in a run in the third scoring
Maddie Anderson.
In the fifth, Washburn scored three more runs when an RBI single by Moore scored
Samantha Stallbaumer and
Lacie Myers' 2 RBI hit scored both Baker and Kirk. In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats scored three runs cutting the lead to two, but a solo home run by Kirk pushed Washburn up to a three-run lead.
Kelsee Henry struck out four scattering two hits improving to 9-3 on the season.
Lexi Crabtree pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to finish off the game.
Washburn had 11 hits in the game with Moore, Kirk and
Lacie Myers each recording two hits.
Game 2 – Washburn 6, Northern State 5
Northern State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning and the Ichabods took the lead with a five-run fifth inning scoring three unearned runs in the inning.
Emilee Baker,
Savannah Moore and
Brianna Francis each had RBI in the inning.
However the Wolves came back with four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score. But in the seventh inning with one out,
Taylor Kirk's walk off home run to left center gave the Ichabods the win.
Moore and Kirk each had two hits to lead the Ichabods and
Lexi Crabtree picked up the win tossing 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit coming in the game in relief for
Megan Deiter who had eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
