Ichabods Start Florida Trip Strong with 9-0 win over Yeomen

3/21/2018 11:53:00 AM

Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The Washburn men's tennis team got back on the winning track Wednesday, defeating Oberlin College 9-0.

In a match that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, a weather delay knocked it back to Wednesday morning, where the Ichabods dominated in advance of their matchup with undefeated Saint Leo (Fla.).

After doubles went 3-0 in favor of the Ichabods, the singles matches all went one set due to weather. Notable decisions included Raul-Alin Dicu clinching the match for the Ichabods out of the No. 6 slot, winning 8-2. Alejandro Valarezo continued his duals match winning streak, defeating Oberlin's No. 1 singles player 8-6, and Brad Eidenmueller clinched the 9-0 sweep, winning in No. 4 singles, 8-4

The Ichabods will take their 7-2 record back to the courts in Orlando tomorrow, as they face the Saint Leo Lions, who are 10-0 on the year. An intriguing rematch will be in play, as Plaza and the Lions' Thomas Grinberg faced off in the third-place match of the ITA Oracle Cup. Grinberg came away with the 6-0, 7-5 win in the match.
