Ichabods Prepare for Tough Week in Orlando and at Home

First Serve …
•          The Washburn women's tennis team looks to get back to its winning ways under tough circumstances, playing two national top-30 teams in Saint Leo (Fla.) Thursday, and Southwest Baptist Sunday.
•          The Lions are 9-3 on the season, while the Bearcats are 5-3.
•          The Ichabods will stage their first meeting against the Lions in Orlando Thursday, and their 40th all-time meeting with the Bearcats.
•          Head Coach Lance Lysaught will be looking for his first victory over the Bearcats as a head coach.
 
 Week in Review …
•          The Ichabods extended and lost a six-match win streak last week, defeating Fort Hays State 8-1 on Wednesday before falling to Nebraska-Kearney 4-5 Friday.
•          No. 1 singles player Alexis Czapinski and No. 3 singles player Jacqueline Engelbrecht both improved their singles records in duals play to 9-1, each scoring a pair of victories over the past week.
•          In doubles, the No. 1 team of Czapinski and Logan Morrissey also had a perfect week, and boosted their duals record to 9-1.
•          At No. 6 singles, MaKenna Gonzales had an impressive week, going 2-0 with a straight set victory against Fort Hays and a three-set victory against Nebraska-Kearney.
 
 Ichabods Season Outlook …                                          
•          In the ITA preseason poll, the Ichabods are ranked No. 9 in the Central Region.
•          Two singles players find themselves in the ITA preseason regional rankings; Alexis Czapinski debuts at No. 12, while Logan Morrissey begins the year at No. 15.
•          In regional doubles rankings, the team of Czapinski and Morrissey are ranked No. 5.
 
Making Adjustments …
•          After playing No. 3 singles last season, Logan Morrissey has moved up to the No. 2 spot, and has found success with a 7-3 record so far.
•          After pairing with Madeline Hill at the No. 1 doubles slot last season, Engelbrecht has found a new partner in freshman Alysha Nowacki, playing No. 2 doubles. The duo is 6-4 on the season.
 
 Successful Fall …
•  The Ichabods had multiple first-place finishes in fall season tournaments, including sweeping each singles bracket at the Wheatstate Fall Classic.
•          Alexis Czapinski also won the singles bracket in the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Northwest Missouri State.
 
 Impressive ITA Showings …
•          Czapinski and Morrisey each made the round of 16 in the regional singles tournament, as well as the duo making it to the quarterfinal round of the doubles tournament.
 
 New Faces …                                                                    
•          Czapinski, in her first spring with the Ichabods, is racking up impressive victories on both the singles and doubles sides. She is 20-3 on the year in singles.
•          Alysha Nowacki began her freshman year in the spring, and has found chemistry with doubles partner Jacqueline Engelbrecht, with a 6-4 record on the season. She is also 4-6 on the season in No. 4 singles.
