PITTSBURG, Kan. --- After three consecutive games of double-digit hit totals, the Washburn Ichabod offense went cold on Saturday (Mar. 31) as they tallied just five hits, while dropping the series in a 7-1 decision against Pittsburg State.
Â
The Ichabods (10-21, 4-16 MIAA) looked good early as they loaded the bases in the first with one out but were able to get anyone across.
Â
Darian Abram accounted for the lone Washburn run in the third. Abram led off the inning with a single to center. Opportunistic base running then saw him steal second before a throwing error on the play allowed him to advance to third.
Josh Crosby then drove Abram in with a double down the right field line tying the game at 1-1.
Â
Abram collected another hit in the eighth to finish 2-for-4 at the plate. Crosby meanwhile was 1-for-3 on the day with a walk.
Javis Larson notched a hit in the first, before
Daniel Reilly tallied a pinch-hit to lead-off the eighth.
Â
Pitt State (21-11, 13-7 MIAA)Â scored once during the first and seventh innings, twice in fourth and three in third. The Gorillas capped the day with 11 total hits, while leaving 10 runners stranded.
Â
The Washburn bats were left guessing for much of the day as Gorilla starter Brendan Stanek faced the minimum number of batters during six of the game's nine frames.
Â
Ichabod starter
Sam Carver was charged with the loss as he tossed six and a third, allowing six runs on eight hits while walking five and registering three strikeouts.
Braden Larkey and
Zach Linquist each made relief appearances.
