TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn Ichabods' bats came alive on Sunday as the they registered a season-high 11 runs on 11 hits, though it was not enough as they dropped the series finale to Central Missouri, 17-11, and slipped to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Washburn notched the first run of the day in the first on a
Jake Bublitz RBI single before adding to its lead with three runs in the second as
Darian Abram and
Javis Larson each had RBI singles, before selfless baserunner from Larson distracted the UCM (12-3, 5-1 MIAA) infield allowing Abram to score from third making it 4-0.
The Ichabods then registered four runs during the fifth as Abram,
Josh Crosby, Bublitz, and
Bowe Behymer each scored before scoring twice in the sixth and once in the ninth.Â
After a two-run third, UCM took a 16-3 lead midway the fifth as it plated nine in the fourth and five in the fifth before pushing its final run total to 17 with one run in the seventh.
Sam Carver, who got the start for the Ichabods, was charged with the loss as surrendered five runs, two earned, on four hits. Carver began the day strong retiring seven of the first eight batters he faced.
Nick Sloan was effective in his four innings of relief as he conceded two runs in seven hits with four strikeouts.
Bublitz finished with two RBI, two runs, and was 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk. Abram posted three runs and went 1-for-4, while Crosby also accounted for a pair of runs.Â
Erik Webb and Travis Able combined for 10 of the Mules' 19 hits.
Washburn is slated to return to action next on Friday, March 9 as it begins a three-game set with Missouri Western in St. Joseph.Â
