Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team won its conference opener in dramatic fashion Wednesday, defeating Northwest Missouri State, 5-4.

The come-from-behind duals win started in doubles, where the Ichabods fell behind 1-2. The No. 1 team of Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey was the lone Ichabod pair to come out victorious, as No.'s 2 and 3 each fell 8-6.

The Ichabods were able to pull ahead 4-2 after winning singles matches out of slots 1, 2 and 3. Czapinski won her No. 1 match in straight sets, while No. 2 Morrissey and No. 3, Jacqueline Engelbrecht each were sent to a third set. Morrissey was pushed to the brink, going into a third set tiebreaker before ultimately pulling out the win.

Madison Lysaught was able to clinch for the Ichabods in the second-to-last decision of the duals match. She defeated Julie Rinderknech 6-4, 6-3 to give the Ichabods their fourth consecutive victory.

The 5-2 Ichabods will remain in conference play, hosting Missouri Western. The Ichabods and 8-4 Griffons will square off at 1 p.m. Saturday in Topeka, Kan. For any schedule changes, visit wusports.com.
