Ichabods Prepare for Final Tuneup Before MIAA Tournament

First Serve …
•    The Washburn men's tennis team gears up for its final week of the regular season, hosting Rockhurst before traveling to Kansas City, Missouri to take on William Woods, pending weather-related changes to the schedule.
•     The Hawks are 14-3 on the season, while the No. 6 (NAIA) Owls are 6-5.
•      The Ichabods will try to build upon the slim, 14-13 series lead they have on the Hawks so far, while looking to remain undefeated against the Owls.

 Week in Review …
•  In their first action in almost two weeks, the Ichabods finished off MIAA action with a pair of wins against Lindenwood and Emporia State
•    Against the Lions, the Ichabods completed their fifth 9-0 sweep of a team of the season, first in conference play.
•     The three primary doubles teams for the Ichabods all finished the week undefeated, with the teams of Alejandro Valarezo/Blake Hunter and Chase Brill/Paul Haase both heading into the final week of the regular season with stellar 11-2 duals records.
•    Valarezo, Blake Hunter, and the two freshman Bradley Eidenmueller and Raul-Alin Dicu each scored a pair of singles victories last week..

 Nationally Ranked Ichabods …
•    As a team, the Ichabods find themselves ranked No. 43 in the nation.
•    After a historic fall, Valarezo is ranked No. 18 in the nation in singles. Freshman Raul-Alin Dicu also appears in the rankings at No. 69.
•  The Ichabods also have two teams nationally-ranked in doubles, with the team of Valarezo and Blake Hunter ranked No. 3, and the team of Chase Brill and Paul Haase ranked at No. 50.

Regional Rankings Abound …
•    The Ichabods are ranked No. 3 in the Central region.
•      Four Ichabods make the regional rankings in singles play, including Valarezo at No. 1.
•    Joining Valarezo is Blake Hunter at No. 12, freshman Bradley Eidenmueller at No. 15, and sophomore Paul Haase at No. 17.
•    The Valarezo/Hunter team also tops the doubles regional rankings.

 History Made in the Fall …
•  Valarezo made history as the first Ichabod to win the ITA Regional Singles and Doubles Tournaments.
•    The four Ichabods in the top 20 regional singles rankings each made the round of 16 in the ITA Regional Singles Tournament.
•    In fall tournament play, the Ichabods swept the doubles portion of the Wheatstate Fall Classic.
•    Sophomore Chase Brill also won the C-singles bracket at the same tournament.

 New Faces …
•      Entering the second-to-last week of the regular season, freshmen Bradley Eidenmueller and Raul-Alin Dicu have both made big impacts. Dicu is 9-3 in duals play, while Eidenmueller sits at 9-4. They have also seen success in limited action as a doubles team, going 4-1 in duals play.
•    Former Ichabod Matt Barlow is in his first season as an assistant coach. Barlow is a two-time team MVP and has made multiple All-MIAA honors.

 Moving up the Career Ranks …
•    Blake Hunter is the all-time leader in men's doubles victories in Washburn history with 87 and counting.
•    Valarezo has also moved his way into the top 10 in doubles victories over the fall, climbing up to a tie for fourth all-time.
•    In singles action, Blake Hunter sits at third place in all-time victories with 71, while Valarezo has moved into a tie for fourth place with 66 wins.  
•    Valarezo also holds the top spot all-time in doubles winning percentage, at .843.
