MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team came up on the wrong side of a game-winning walk off as the No. 15-ranked Augustana Vikings topped the Ichabods 2-1 in the opening game of the NCAA Central Regional #2 Tournament at Southern Arkansas University. The Ichabods will play in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
The Ichabods jumped on the board first as they have done 37 times this season when
Emilee Baker drove in Washburn's (39-13) only run of the game in the top of the third sending
Samantha Stallbaumer home staking the Ichaods to a 1-0 lead. Stallbaumer singled in the inning and then collected the first of her two stolen bases of the game giving her 30 on the season.
Washburn held the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when Shannon Petersen led off the inning with a double and later would score on a sac fly by Christina Pickett tying the score at 1-1.
In the final three at bats, the Ichabods had runners reach second twice but could not get any runs across as
Savannah Moore led off the sixth with a single and then Stallbaumer singled in the seventh with two outs and swiped second but the Ichabods could not convert the hits into runs.
In the seventh, after a lead off walk, Pickett's double to right scored Samantha Eisenreich who would enter the game as a pinch runner with the winning run as the throw came too late.
Kelsee Henry started the game going 3 2/3 innings scatter five hits and
Megan Deiter entered the game and despite being called for only one illegal pitch all season long, was called for 11 in tonight's game dropping to 17-3 this season in the circle.
Baker led the ichabods with two hits as Stallbaumer, Moore, Carney and
Lexie Myers all collected hits.
