Men's Tennis Looks to Take Program to New Heights at National Championships

 First Serve …
•    After advancing to the NCAA National Championships' round of 16 for the first time since 2008 by defeating Nebraska-Kearney in the regional round, the Ichabods will go on to face the No. 3 seed Lander.
•    The Ichabods join Southwest Baptist as MIAA representatives in the National Championships.
•     The Bearcats are currently 22-3 on the season, reaching the finals of the Peach Belt Conference.
•      This will be the first matchup between the Ichabods and Lander in school history. The Bearcats are eight-time NCAA Division II National Champions.
•    Should the Ichabods advance, they would make their first NCAA National quarterfinals appearance in school history.

 Week in Review …
•      The Ichabods withstood a late UNK rally in their 5-3 win on May 1.
•    After winning two of the three doubles matches, the Ichabods also captured the first two singles decisions to go up 4-1.
•     The No. 1 doubles team of Alejandro Valarezo and Blake Hunter won their 30th match of the season against UNK.
•    In singles, Valarezo moved to 29-8 overall on the year, while freshman Bradley Eidenmueller  clinched the victory for the Ichabods and won his 20th match of the season, good for second on the team.

 Nationally Ranked Ichabods …
•    As a team, the Ichabods find themselves ranked No. 35 in the nation.
•    After a historic fall and school record-breaking spring, Valarezo is ranked No. 34 in the nation in singles.
•  The Ichabods also have the team of Valarezo and Blake Hunter ranked No. 7 in the country in doubles.

Regional Rankings Abound …
•    The Ichabods are ranked No. 2 in the Central region.
•      Four Ichabods make the regional rankings in singles play, including Valarezo at No. 1.
•    Joining Valarezo is Blake Hunter at No. 12, freshman Bradley Eidenmueller at No. 15, and sophomore Paul Haase at No. 17.
•    The Valarezo/Hunter team also tops the doubles regional rankings.

 History Made in the Fall …
•  Valarezo made history as the first Ichabod to win the ITA Regional Singles and Doubles Tournaments.
•    The four Ichabods in the top 20 regional singles rankings each made the round of 16 in the ITA Regional Singles Tournament.
•    In fall tournament play, the Ichabods swept the doubles portion of the Wheatstate Fall Classic.
•    Sophomore Chase Brill also won the C-singles bracket at the same tournament.

 New Faces …
•      Entering nationals, freshmen Bradley Eidenmueller and Raul-Alin Dicu have both made big impacts. Dicu is 10-6 in duals play, while Eidenmueller sits at 12-5. They have also seen success in limited action as a doubles team, going 4-1 in duals play.
•    Former Ichabod Matt Barlow has helped the Ichabods get to almost unprecedented heights in his first season as an assistant coach. Barlow was a two-time team MVP and made multiple All-MIAA honors in his playing career from 2014-17.

 Moving Up the Career Ranks …
•    Blake Hunter is the all-time leader in men's doubles victories in Washburn history with 91 and counting.
•    Valarezo has also moved his way into the top 10 in doubles victories over the fall, climbing up to third all-time with 79.
•    In singles action, Blake Hunter sits in second place in all-time victories with 74, while Valarezo has moved into fourth place with 70 wins.
