WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Washburn Women's Tennis team concluded the Midwestern State Invitational on Saturday with several players reaching the semifinal rounds.
In doubles action, the tandem of 
Logan Morrissey and 
Alexis Czapinski reached the Flight A semifinals before falling 8-4 to MSU. Also in that flight, 
Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Maria Valverde advanced to the championship of the consolation side of the bracket, but lost to North Central Texas College 9-7.
Madison Lysaught and 
Svea Crohn reached the Flight B doubles championship match on the consolation side after an 8-2 victory over NCTC advanced them to the semifinals and then moved onto the final match by default. However, a default by the Washburn duo resulted in a loss in the consolation final match.
In singles Flight A, Valverde played in the semifinal round, but suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Van den Dungen of SBU.
In Flight B action, Morrissey fell to Segetija (MSU) in a hard fought three set battle that went 7-6(6), 1-6, 10-4.
Crohn defeated opponents in Flight C from NCTC (6-1, 6-1) and Northwest Missouri (6-2, 6-4), but dropped a tight semifinal contest to Southern Arkansas 7-6(3), 6-3.
Kinsey Fields advanced her way to the semifinals of Flight D, before falling 6-4, 6-2 to Grozdanovic (NWMSU).
Washburn Tennis will travel next to Oklahoma City, Okla., to compete in the ITA Central Regional. The tournament begins Friday, Sept. 28 and goes through Sunday, Sept. 30.
