Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn women's soccer defeated Central Oklahoma at home, 3-2 on Sun., Oct. 20. Washburn last defeated the Bronchos on Sept. 10, 2008, 4-3, and the last time the Ichabods defeated a nationally recognized opponent was in 2008 against No. 23 Nebraska-Omaha, 2-1.
In the first half, the Ichabods got on the board first. In the 17th minute
Olivia Grasso scored a header off a corner kick by
Tera Lynch to take a 1-0 lead over the Bronchos. Central Oklahoma quickly responded with goal by Taryn Kedzior three minutes later. Washburn took the lead again in the 27th minute with a goal by Lynch from the 25 yard line. Kedzior found the back of the net again for the Bronchos to tie the Ichabods, 2-2. At the end of the half the Bronchos led in attempted shots 9-7.
Raegan Wells tallied six saves for the Ichabods.
In the second half the teams were tied until the 83rd minute. Lynch scored in the top left corner of the net helping the Ichabods take a 3-2 lead over the Bronchos. Washburn defense was led by
Mattie Miano and
Whitney Bockover, keeping the Bronchos to only seven shot attempts. Washburn made two crucial saves in the final four minutes of the match, first by Miano who protected the net by heading away a shot on goal by the Bronchos followed by a strong save from Wells. Wells did a tremendous job in goal, finishing with 12 saves. Grasso finished with one goal and two shot attempts. Lynch tallied one assist, two goals and five shot attempts.
The Ichabods take a road trip to Missouri this weekend facing No. 5 Central Missouri Fri., Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and Missouri Southern on Sun., Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.
