- The 24th-ranked Washburn women's tennis team (8-1) looks to extend on their three-match winning streak as they host Division-III Central College on Tuesday, March 12.
- The dual match is set to take place at the Genesis Health Club in Southwest Topeka and will begin at 8 p.m. after the conclusion of the men's match.

Last Week …
- The Ichabods opened their MIAA schedule with a pair of wins last weekend at home.
- Washburn posted their second-consecutive sweep on March 8 as it dominated in the 7-0 victory over Fort Hays State (3-4, 0-2 MIAA).
- The Ichabods quickly took control of the dual with two decisive wins to grab the doubles point.
- Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Svea Crohn got things started as they shut out their opponents 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
- At the top of the order, Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey clinched the doubles point with their 6-1 victory.
- Although their match was unfinished, Maria Soler Valverde and Kinsey Fields were up 4-2 when the Ichabods sealed the doubles point.
- For the second-straight match, the Ichabods turned in an impressive performance by winning at each position in singles action to complete the 7-0 sweep.
- On March 10, the Ichabods won their third-consecutive match with a 6-1 triumph over long-time foe Nebraska-Kearney.
- Just as they have done for much of the season, the Ichabods started off strong and swept the doubles competition.
- Czapinski and Morrissey turned in a 6-2 performance at the top of the order.
- Engelbrecht / Crohn and Soler Valverde / Fields both won their matches by the score of 6-4.
- Washburn lost just one match in singles action as they rolled to victories down the lineup two through six.
- Morrissey got things started for the Ichabods with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 slot.
- Czapinski maintained her perfect record at No. 2 singles with her 6-3, 6-2 victory.
- At the fifth position, Crohn clinched the team victory as she easily handled her opponent 6-0, 6-1.
- Soler Valverde posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 and Madison Lysaught rounded out the scoring for the Ichabods with a three set battle at No. 6. Lysaught came out on top 6-1, 1-6, 10-8.
Scouting the Opposition …
Central College Dutch
- The Dutch are coming off an impressive 13-4 (6-2 Iowa Conference) record from the 2017-18 campaign. The team reached the semifinal round of their conference tournament.
- This year's squad features a host of underclassmen in addition to eight returners.
- Ryun Ferrell has been the men's and women's head coach at Central College since 2014. He holds a 54-30 (24-14 conference) record at the helm of the women's team.
- The team is currently 8-6Â on the season.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Ichabods in the Rankings …
- Washburn is ranked 24th in the nation.
- This is the first time the team has appeared in the top-25 ITA rankings since 2007, when Washburn was ranked 25th in all of Division II.
- As a team, the Ichabods are ranked No. 6 in the Central Region.
- Reflecting their finish at the ITA National Cup, Morrissey and Czapinski will begin the season as the third-ranked doubles team in all of Division II.
- Additionally, the duo also holds down the top ranking in the Central Region.Â
- Individually, Engelbrecht is ranked fouth in the region and 28th in the nation.
- Czapinski also joins the region's top-10 list at No. 9 in women's singles.
- Washburn was picked fourth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

'Bods and Ends …
- Czapinski picked up her seventh career MIAA Athlete of the Week award on March 11th. She has already received the honor four of the five times it has been awarded this season.
- She went a combined 4-0 last weekend and improves to 9-0 at No. 2 singles and 7-2 at No. 1 doubles.
- Czapinski and Morrissey hold a 15-4 season doubles record.
- At No. 3 doubles, Soler Valverde and Fields are an undefeated 7-0.
- Crohn and Engelbrecht both won their 10th singles match of the year over the weekend.Â
- Engelbrecht also earned her 50th career doubles victory in the win against Nebraska-Kearney. She holds an all-time mark of 50-25.
- Washburn's 6-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney marks the first time the Ichabods have defeated UNK since 2012.

Coach Lance Lysaught …
- is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Washburn men's and women's tennis teams.
- has coached the Washburn women to a 45-45 overall record and is 18-22 in MIAA matches.
- led the Ichabod men to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round in 2018, the first time the program had ever advanced beyond the national round of 16.
- was tabbed to start up the men's and women's tennis programs at Ottawa University in 2012 where he was the head coach for two seasons.
- is a former Washburn student-athlete who played tennis for the Ichabods from 1987-91.
- was a two-time District 10 singles champion and an NAIA national qualifier in both singles and doubles over his tenure as a player.
