PITTSBURG, Kan. --- The Washburn Ichabods capitalized on opportunities late as they rallied for a, 4-2, come-from-behind win against Pittsburg State on Saturday. With the result, the Ichabods claimed the series, 2-1, and improved to 8-7 on the year and 3-3 in conference play.

Trailing 2-0, Washburn tied the game in the fifth with runs by
Xavier De Leon and
Lane Harvey. After De Leon reached on a lead-off single, Harvey drove him across with triple to right center in the next at-bat. A wild pitch then allowed Harvey to sprint in for the tying run.

In the eighth, still tied 2-2,
Peter Shearer was hit by a pitch as he reached with two outs. In the next at-bat, Shearer advanced to third as
Wyatt Featherston singled to right, before moving to second on runner indifference. A Pitt State throwing error then allowed the duo to race across during
Braden Kirkpatrick's pinch-hit appearance.

From there,
Brandon Gabler slammed the door in the ninth as he tallied a pair of strikeouts in the three-up, three-down frame. Tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings, with one hit and six strikeouts, Gabler (1-0) was credited with his first career win. Starter
Brock Gilliam went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Pitt State (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) jumped out early as it pushed two across on four hits. Ichabod starter
Brock Gilliam then settled in, retiring 10 of the next 11 batters faced. A pair of walks and a hit batter allowed the Gorillas the load the bases in the top half of the fifth. With two outs on the board, Gilliam made way for Gabler who recorded the third out.

From there Gabler was dominate, allowing just one hit and one walk the rest of the way. Â

Offensively,
Mitchell Lady was the only Ichabod with multiple hits as went 2-for-4 with singles in the second and fourth, while
Steven Jacobson,
Javis Larson, Harvey, Featherston, De Leon and Shearer made up the balance of Washburn's eight hits.

Washburn's next contest is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 as it plays host to Emporia State in non-conference action at Falley Field.
