TOPEKA, Kan. -- The 24th-ranked Washburn women's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday evening as they swept both the doubles and singles competition in a 7-0 victory over the Newman Jets. The Ichabods move to 6-1 overall on the season.

Washburn quickly took control of the dual as they dropped just one set over the course of the three doubles matches played. The duos of Alexis Czapinski / Logan Morrissey and Maria Soler Valverde / Kinsey Fields blanked their opponents 6-0 at the No 1 and 3 slots. With their win, Soler Valverde and Fields remain unbeaten in doubles action and are 6-0 on the year. Svea Crohn and Jacqueline Engelbrecht won at No. 2 by the score of 6-1.

The Ichabods carried their momentum into singles and won at each line down the order. Czapinski improved to 7-0 at No. 2 singles with her 6-4, 6-0 win. Engelbrecht and Morrissey also added to their individual win totals at the first and third spot in the lineup. At the No. 4 position, Soler Valverde cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 decision and clinched the team match victory. Crohn and Madison Lysaught completed the successful day for Washburn at No. 5 and 6.

Washburn will begin MIAA play next weekend with a pair of home matches. On Sat., March 9, the Ichabods take on Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. and then host Nebraska-Kearney the following day at 1 p.m. Both matches are currently scheduled to take place at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
