EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team went 1-1 on the first of three days at the Emporia State Regional Crossover topping Upper Iowa 7-5 before falling to Wayne State 5-0. Washburn returns to action on Friday when they will take on St. Cloud State at 12:30 p.m. and then Concordia-St. Paul at 3 p.m.
Game 1 - Washburn 7, Upper Iowa 5
After the Peacocks scored three in the top of the first, the Ichabods rallied scoring three of their own to tie the score as
Samantha Stallbaumer scored after singling on a wild pitch and then
Taylor Kirk's seventh home run of the season scored
Savannah Moore who reached on a single to tie the score at 3-3.
In the third, the Ichabods took a 4-3 lead on a pinch-hit home run by
Sieana Hall.
In the sixth, Washburn added three more runs after Hall doubled to lead off the inning, Washburn took advantage of a Peacock error and Stallbaumer hit a double scoring
Maddie Stipsits.
Brianna Fuchs hit her fourth triple of the season scoring Stallbaumer pushing the lead to 7-3.
Upper Iowa added two more runs in the seventh cutting the lead to 7-5 but would not get any closer.
Stallbaumer finished with three hits and scoring two times while Hall scored twice with two hits. Fuchs had two hits too in the game.
Raegen Hamm tossed the complete-game win striking out seven improving to 9-7 on the season.
Game 2 - Wayne State 5, Washburn 0
Wayne State scored two runs in the second adding one more in the fourth and two more in the sixth leading to a 5-0 win.
Washburn was limited to four hits in the game stranding 12 baserunners. Fuchs had three of the Ichabod hits and Stipsits had the other.
