ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn men's tennis team won every doubles and singles match Friday afternoon on their way to a 7-0 sweep of conference opponent Lindenwood. The Ichabods posted their fifth straight victory and moved to 11-4 (2-1 MIAA) on the season while the Lions dropped to 3-11 (0-3 MIAA).
The duo of
Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and
Paul Haase got things started at the top of the order in doubles with a quick 6-2 victory.
Chase Brill and
Bradley Eidenmueller picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles and
Marc Roura Casi and
Raul-Alin Dicu completed the clean sweep with a 7-6 (7-5) triumph on court three.
The Ichabods carried their momentum into singles action and won all six matches. Haase lost just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 3 singles. Dicu grabbed a 7-5, 6-2 win at court No. 1. For the second-straight match, Eidenmueller clinched the team victory at fourth in line with a 7-5, 6-1 victory. At the No. 2 slot, Roura Casi added to his individual win column, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Brill won at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and
Luke Howard completed the scoring for Washburn with a come from behind super tiebreaker victory, 1-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The Ichabods wrap up the regular season conference schedule tomorrow (Saturday, April 13) in Bolivar, Mo., as Washburn is set to take on the 13th-ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcats (11-2, 2-0 MIAA). The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
