TOPEKA, Kan. --- The offense was stifled on Friday as Washburn baseball (19-19, 11-5 MIAA) tallying one run on seven hits in a 4-1 loss to Emporia State on Friday at Falley Field.

Jacob Head (2-4) was dealt the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings with six strikeouts. Relievers
Bailey Jenkins (0.1 IP) and
Nathan Lorenzen (2.0 IP) each had scoreless appearances and a strikeout a piece.

Peter Shearer scored the lone Washburn run in the fourth with help from
Wyatt Featherston after reaching on one-out single.

Xavier De Leon notched his 12th multi-hit game as went 2-for-4 with singles in the first and third.

Emporia State took a 1-0 in the fourth before pushing three across in the seventh.

Washburn will close the series Saturday from Falley Field, first pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
