WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The No. 37 Washburn men's team lost 4-3 Friday in a hard fought battle at No. 20 Midwestern State. The Ichabods are now 12-6 overall this season while the Mustangs improve to 16-3. Washburn's regular season finale will be tomorrow (Saturday, April 20) at No. 45 Southeastern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. in Durant, Okla.

Midwestern State took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The fourth-ranked duo of
Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and
Paul Haase defeated the No. 21-ranked pair of Ben Westwick and Alberto Diaz at No. 1 doubles, 6-3.

The singles portion of the match was extremely competitive by both sides as four of the six matches were decided in the third frame. Valarezo Plaza, the 18th ranked singles player, got things started for Washburn with a huge 7-5, 6-4 victory at the top of the order against the No. 2-ranked player in the nation, Angel Palacios. The Mustangs answered with a close three set win at the No. 3 position.
Bradley Eidenmueller knotted up the match again for the Ichabods with his strong come-from-behind triumph at No. 4 singles, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. Midwestern State, however, won at Nos. 2 and 5 to clinch the dual and cut Washburn's comeback short.
Chase Brill powered through at No. 6 and won the final match of the day, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 11-9.
