No. 5 Washburn dominates in sweep of William Jewell

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 5 Washburn women's tennis team was in complete control Tuesday afternoon as they won every double and singles match in the 7-0 sweep over William Jewell. The Ichabods extend their winning streak to 10 matches and improve to 15-1 overall this season while the Cardinals fall to 6-10.

For the seventh time this season, the Ichabods won all three doubles matches played. Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Svea Crohn got things rolling with a 6-0 shut out victory at No. 2 doubles. Ally Burr and Madison Lysaught recorded a 6-1 win to clinch the doubles point at the No. 3 slot. Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey completed the clean sweep by adding a 6-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles.

Washburn continued to dominate in singles action as it won at all six positions. Engelbrecht blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, for her 10th victory at No. 1 singles. Morrissey added a 6-0, 6-2 win at the third line. Czapinski clinched the match at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and continued her winning streak to a sweet 16-0. Maria Soler Valverde made short order of the match at No. 4 singles, turning in a 6-0, 6-0 shut out performance. Crohn and Lysaught rounded out the day for the Ichabods as they both recorded 6-1, 6-0, victories at No. 5 and No. 6.

The Ichabods have a full weekend ahead with three matches in as many days. Washburn will play its final home matches of the regular season this Friday and Saturday against MIAA opponents Northeastern State (April 5 at 2 p.m.) and No. 7 Central Oklahoma (April 6 at 12 p.m.). The match against UCO will be senior day where four Ichabods will be recognized before the match. Washburn wraps up the busy week at Rockhurst on Sunday, April 7, beginning at 11 a.m.
