OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 7 Washburn women's tennis team lost to No. 27 Southwest Baptist, 4-2, in the MIAA Tournament semifinal match Saturday. The Ichabods are now 22-3 on the season and will wait for the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis selection show on Tuesday, May 7 at 8:30 p.m. to find out their postseason fate.

The Ichabods currently hold the No. 1 ranking in the Central Region. The NCAA Central Regional Tournament will consist of the top-six ranked teams in the region.
 
Washburn got on the board first after claiming the doubles point. The top-doubles team in the nation, Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey, got things started with a 6-3 victory over sixth-ranked Jill Van Den Dungen/Dona Abohabaga at No. 1 doubles. Southwest Baptist won at court three, 7-5, forcing the doubles point to be decided in the No. 2 doubles match. It was a battle by both teams, but Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Svea Crohn came out on top, 7-5, to clinch the early lead for the Ichabods.
 
The Bearcats retaliated in singles action, winning the first two matches and overtaking the lead. Morrissey put up the equalizing point with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at the No. 4 position to tie up the match 2-2. Southwest Baptist went ahead again with a win on court six and clinched the dual with a three set victory at No. 2 singles.
 
Southwest Baptist, the tournament's four-seed, improves to 13-6 and advances to the MIAA Championship match on Sunday.
